FAQ - Auth Error 502 - Invalid user name or password
The error message you're seeing is coming from the Usenet
news server you're trying to connect to. It means that you
haven't entered the correct logon account name and password
for the news server on News Rover's Configure/Server screen.
The logon account name and password for the news server is
provided by the company that runs the news server, not our
company. This information is different than the registration
name and license key we sent you for News Rover.
The first thing to check is whether you mistyped your logon
name and password for the news server. Be sure to enter them
exactly as the news server company specified them. Some
names and passwords are case sensitive.
Our company doesn't have anything to do with the operation
of the news server, so we don't know what your logon name
and password for the server are. If you don't know, you need
to contact the company that runs the news
server and ask them.
If you are able to connect and download one or two messages
but then get the error message, the problem could be caused
by having the connection limit for the news server set too
high.
Go to the Configure/Server screen in News Rover and look at
the three values near the bottom of the screen in the group
labeled "Max. connections to server". The most critical of
the three is "Total", which limits the total connections
including both Autoscan and subscribed newsgroups. Set the
total allowed connections to 2 and see if that solves your
problem. If it does, gradually increase it until you start
having problems, then back it down one step.
